Myocardial Ischemia in Patients with Coronary Arteries without Significant Angiographic Lesions
Keywords:
myocardial ischemia, ischemic heart disease, coronary arteries.Abstract
Introduction: Ischemia with normal coronary arteries groups a set of heterogeneous diseases, characterized by presenting signs and symptoms of myocardial ischemia in the absence of significant epicardial coronary artery obstruction.
Objective: To describe the clinical, epidemiological and angiographic characteristics of patients with myocardial ischemia and coronary arteries without significant angiographic lesions.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery from January 2019 to December 2021. The sample was non-probabilistic and by convenience; it consisted of 155 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Clinical variables such as age, sex, coronary risk factors, echocardiographic findings, coronary angiography and the presence of adverse cardiovascular events were evaluated.
Results: The average age was 61 years with a predominance of women. The main coronary risk factor was arterial hypertension (62.6%). The most frequent clinical manifestation was typical angina. Thirty-two-point nine percent presented T wave alterations and 34.2% had an ejection fraction of less than 50%. 17.4% of patients presented cardiovascular adverse events; hospitalizations for heart failure were the most reported.
Conclusions: The clinical, epidemiological and angiographic characteristics of patients with myocardial ischemia and coronary arteries without significant lesions showed similar behavior to that reported in the literature reviewed.
