Abstract

Introduction:Cardiopulmonary arrest is one of the more dramatic and severe emergency the medical staff can face and deal with in emergency units worldwide.

Objective: Clinico epidemiological characteristics of the cardiac arrest patients arriving to the Emergency unit of the National Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.

Methods: Cases included all 180 patients who had cardiopulmonary arrest and arrived to the emergency unit from January 2010 to January 2013.

Conclusions:Male gender was predominant, mean age was similar in both groups, asystole was the most frequent electrical activity at the time of arrival, myocardial infarction was the leading etiology, mean time of arrest was 6.09 minutes and resuscitation time was 35.08 minutes. Overall mortality rate was high.
