Infective endocarditis associated with cardiac devices. Our experience

Abstract

In the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery of Havana city, in the understood period of January of 1992 to December of the 2006 was carried out a descriptive study, traverse to describe the results of the surgical treatment in 45 operated patients of Infective Endocarditis associated to heart devices. The 60 year-old patients and more was those most affected and the masculine sex prevailed. The EIDC was presented with more incidence in relation to the EIVN and the EIVP. The predominant germ in the hemocultivos was the golden estafilococo. Proceeding surgical consisted on the extraction of the generating system and wires of Pacemaker or DCI, and more than the half was carried out without extracorporeal circulation. The cardiac insufficiency, the postoperative bleeding and the infection of the surgical wound were the most frequent complications. The hospital mortality in the EIDC was of 8.9%.
