Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary thromboembolism is an acute and potentially fatal disease; it represents the third most common acute cardiovascular syndrome after acute myocardial infarction and stroke.
Objective: To describe a clinical case that relates the presence of a saddle pulmonary embolism, with good resolution after anticoagulant treatment.
Clinical case: 60-year-old female patient with a history of arterial hypertension and gouty arthritis, with regular treatment. He went to the emergency room reporting syncope associated with dyspnea; Diagnosed: Pulmonary thromboembolism, with “saddle thrombus”, intermediate-high risk. After anticoagulant treatment, clinical stability and disappearance of electrical and echocardiographic signs are achieved.
Conclusions: Pulmonary thromboembolism is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. A clinical case was presented of a patient with “saddle thrombus” with adequate resolution with anticoagulant therapy.
