Abstract

Cardiovascular disease continues to be one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. A myocardial revascularization surgery is recommended in advanced stages of myocardial ischemia. One of the most serious complications in patients that undergo this surgery is Perioperative Myocardial Infarction, a potentially risky condition the clinical consequences of which can be minor in some cases but can increase morbidity and mortality in others, hence the importance of this review. Objective: Update the status of Perioperative Acute Myocardial Infarction in patients who have undergone a coronary revascularization. Methodology: Bibliographic sources found in Internet through Academic Google were reviewed, including also databases such as Pubmed, Medline, Lilacs and the Scielo database of the Virtual Health Library. Conclusions: The etiology of Perioperative Myocardial Infarction is uncertain and triggering factors affecting both the intraoperative as well as the postoperative periods have been described. Early detection is essential in patients who have undergone heart surgery given the diverse nature of the triggering factors.
