Abstract

Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CET) studies in a global and no invasive way the integral response of the organism in front of the exercise. This test uses a rational analyses of the muscle-skeleton, neuropsychology, hematopoietic, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. This procedure is a useful tool in the functional evaluation and prognostic stratification of the patients with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. A review was done with the objective of known the test history, indications as well as the results interpretation using in the cardiovascular patient following with cardiovascular disease. We did an exhaustive and automatic reviewed of the articles presented in the PubMed, Medline, Hinari, Ebsco and Cumed data bases during the last ten years. These articles were related with the topic. During the cardiopulmonary exercise test the measure of the expiratory gases below exactly determine and reproducibility the patient functional capacity as well as identify a probably silent myocardial injury and the others existents conditions. This test also prescribes with sure a physical exercise program in which the physiological principles have an effective place free the risks. The CET will be necessary in the cardiovascular patients following incorporate to a cardiac rehabilitation program.
