Abstract

Introduction. Inferior infarctions with complete atrioventricular block represent infarcts associated with poor prognosis and whose origin is multifactorial.
Objetive. To determine the risk factors in the onset of complete atrioventricular block in patients with inferior acute myocardial infarction in the Cardiology Department of General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna ", Las Tunas, in the period from January 2011 to June 2013.
Method.  A case-control  analytical study was carried out with  1:3 paired up. The "cases" were composed of 41 patients with complete atrioventricular block with inferior infarction, for the "control" for each patient with atrioventricular block were chosen randomly without locking 3 patients with inferior infarction. Descriptive statistics were used through the percentage analysis for clinical variables and to determine the risk factors in the occurrence of complete auriculoventricular block univariate analyzes were performed, evaluating: ODDS RATIO confidence interval and probability with 95% confidence.
Results. The incidence of complete atrioventricular block was high. Hypertension was the most common factor associated. Inferior infarction with extension to the right ventricle and the strict inferior infarction were the predominant topographies. 68.3% of patients were thrombolysis. Mortality was high. The minority of patients required pacemaker. The inferior infarction of the right ventricle was the only risk factor for onset of complete atrioventricular block in patients with inferior infarction.
Conclusions. The inferior infarction of the right ventricle was considered risk factor for onset of complete atrioventricular block in patients with inferior infarction.
Key words: Acute myocardial infarction, heart block, pacemakers
