Patterns of diastolic function determined by Doppler ecocardiography with acute myocardial infarction

Abstract

42 patients were studied aimed at determining the characteristics of the mitral filling by Doppler ecocardiography in patients who had suffered from an acute myocardial infarction, and their behavior in the different subgroups: infarction localization, left ventricle ejection fraction, age, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. It was found that in the infarctions of anterior localization, LVEF > 35 %, age # 65, the hypertensive and diabetic patients had lower protodiastolic rates. These differences were not significant . The most frequent filling pattern was that of the relaxation alteration. The difference of the prodiastolic rate obtained in the patients of our group proved to be significant as compared with the mean considered as normal. Such difference did not exist in the case of teleciastolic rate. It is concluded that among the patients with acute myocardial infarction in its initial stage, the protodiastolic rates of mitral filling are diminished; whereas the telediastolic rate is not modified. This reduction is greater without reaching significant values in the infarcts of anterior localization, LVEF # 35 %, age # 65, found among hypertensive and diabetic individuals. The commonest filling pattern was that of relaxation alteration.
