Abstract

Introduction: The Complete atrioventricular septation defects (DSAVC) are congenital heart disease with increased pulmonary blood flow that must be repaired before the pulmonary vascular obstructive disease 3-6 months to appear. There are three techniques for surgical correction: a single patch, two patches and the latest simplified single patch (Wilcox 1997) and (Nicholson and Nunn 1999).

Objective: Compare them results between the two techniques and simplified patches only patch used in our center.

Method: A prospective longitudinal observational study was conducted and retro, sequential deliberate intervention. The universe consisted of patients diagnosed with DSAVC year operated since January 2000 to February 2012 the surgical technique according to the anatomical situation and surgeon preference was chosen. The 30 patients who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: I: Simplified single patch (n = 10) and II: two patches (n = 20).

Results: The technique Simplified single patch provided under prolonged aortic clamping, cardiopulmonary bypass, mechanical ventilation, stay in the intensive care and hospital; also lower the number and severity of complications. No differences in the sequels and waste tracking up to six months postoperatively were demonstrated.

Conclusions: Simplified single patch technique is feasible in safer and more effective than the two patches, so that their use results in a contribution to surgical care and social impact.
